With a tar and chip installation, it can be installed directly onto an existing driveway, for example, a tarmac driveway or a concrete driveway. It can also be applied directly to a base foundation which has been heavily compacted to ensure a solid surface.
We apply first a hot bitumen layer by spraying it either using our tar lorry if there is adequate space and if not, using our tar sprayer. Once it has been applied, we coat it all a second time then apply our chipping finish on top of the hot bitumen. It is very important that its applied while its still hot to allow the adhesion process to occur.
Once the chipping has been applied, we machine roll it into the bitumen to ensure its bedded and bonded into the bitumen. A second layer is applied on top loosely to cap it off, normally referred to as a dusting since its just a light coat. During the first few weeks, there will be some loose surface but after a few weeks, it will have worn off and the finished surface will be just as solid and stable as any other driveway.
We provide other options for driveways including resin bound driveways in Kildare and tarmac driveways for Kildare for customers looking for different options on the type of driveway they would like installed.
